About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Washington, DC, Taberna del Alabardero invites you to embark on an authentic culinary journey through Spain’s rich Mediterranean flavors. This elegant Spanish restaurant and tapas bar impeccably blends traditional recipes with fine dining refinement, crafting an unforgettable experience for every guest.

The menu at Taberna del Alabardero is a vivid celebration of Spanish gastronomy. Start your meal with the vibrant Gazpacho de sandia, a chilled watermelon and tomato elixir that refreshes the palate with every sip, or the sublime Ajo blanco malagueño, an Andalusian almond-based cold soup that feels like a whisper of southern Spain. Golden Buñuelos de Txangurro, delicate crab fritters delicately balanced with spice, and crisp Croquetas de jamón serrano provide perfectly seasoned bites that whet your appetite for what’s to come.

For the main course, the restaurant’s Paella Valenciana offers a comforting combination of tender chicken, fresh vegetables, and aromatic saffron-infused rice—each grain perfectly absorbing the robust flavors. The Pollo con vegetales delightfully pairs succulent chicken with seasonal garden vegetables, evoking rustic Spanish countryside cooking. Seafood lovers will find bliss in the Paella marinera rich with shrimp and tender calamari, and the Salmon plancha con meloso de albahaca where seared salmon interacts harmoniously with creamy basil-infused rice.

Desserts such as the classic Churros con chocolate—warm, crisp, and dipped into luscious chocolate—are the perfect sweet ending, alongside silky Flan con caramelo and the comforting nostalgia of Arroz con leche, a caramelized rice pudding that feels like home in every bite.

The dining atmosphere matches the culinary sophistication perfectly. Reviewers consistently praise the elegant ambiance that transports diners to Spain, enhanced by attentive, friendly service. Staff members like Elmer and Maria have been applauded for their warm professionalism, while performers enliven the evening with authentic flamenco shows that captivate the senses—turning a dinner into a vibrant celebration of Spanish culture.

Customers often recount how dining here feels like “a mini trip to Spain,” highlighting both the authenticity and elevated dining standards. Whether savoring the smoky Patatas Bravas or indulging in fresh Gambas al Ajillo, each dish bursts with rich, layered flavors that linger long after the meal. The restaurant’s commitment to excellence shines through every detail, from the vibrantly presented appetizers to the first-rate service applauded by guests like Antonio and the professional, welcoming staff overall.

I highly recommend this classy restaurant. The food, ambiance and service is excellent!! We got great service from Elmer, and Maria. They were very attentive, excellent service. Kudos to them! The flamenco performance as part of their scheduled programming is a treat for the eyes. Just beautiful!! I felt i had a mini trip to Spain!

Everything was wonderful! We started with gazpacho appetizer -- beautiful presentation and excellent proportion (see photo). The bream and snapper dishes were really good. The bream was cooked in an "igloo" of salt which imparted a nice flavor and not too salty. Shout-out to our server Antonio who was first-rate.

Food was amazing. We ordered the Paella which was fabulous. We haven’t had that good of a Paella since we were in Spain. The Sangria was also very good. The service was also top notch. All the staff were extremely professional and welcoming. The vibe was really good too. The restaurant is really elegant and it set the mood in a great way. There is a 20% service charge no matter the party size so that’s something to keep in mind.

Everything at La Taberna del Alabardero was absolutely delicious! We started with the patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo and eggplant, both packed with flavor and perfectly prepared. Then came the stars of the night, the mar y tierra paella and the black rice… ufff ufff ufff! Truly incredible dishes, rich, hearty, and unforgettable. If you’re craving authentic Spanish cuisine done right, this place is a must-visit!

Excellent spot for celebrating a special occasion! 5/5 in every single category. If you love a live performance with great service and food, you cannot miss Alabardero. We went to celebrate my sister’s birthday - they sat us at a table with a great view to the flamenco performance, greeted us with a lovely birthday card and even invited her to do a sevillana! The attention to detail and service provided by everyone made this such a wonderful occasion. Cannot wait to return!
